Prepare for a wall of text and a poll question! It woudn't be me afterall talking or asking without atleast one of these
While this has been on the talks even pre-Hungary and some hype was given for it at the end of the Hungary meet, thought i'd postpone this chat atleast 'till september to see how some things go out...but as there has been some talks about it all over the place, i might as well do the thread about it allready and update it as we go. None of the plans are yet finalized in any way, it's just some of the initial thoughts out there. As we talked about it slightly in Hungary, some people were interested in a full con experience, which would be a full-blown event gathering with it's afterparties, cosplay/AMV contests etc.
As my next summer is still a bit of an unknown one, as my studies end at the last day of May (fucking student pay 'till then...), i was initially thinking and playing around with the thought of going to Tracon at September, and yes, this would mean that it's a Fall meet. Weather during the beginning of the month when it usually happens is still pretty decent, but the nights start to be more chilly at this point. It is located in Tampere, and it allso happens that it is allso relatively close to Parola, where the Finnish tank museum is located at. We could allso hop there if there is enough interest for it after the event itself is over.
Now we have 2 options over how we do this if we go for this one, one of them is the more expensive option and one is the cheaper option.
Option 1 - Go hard, go broke:
We stay in the town that has the event and group up there, staying for as long as we plan to stick around in Finland.
Keep in mind that Finland is expensive and depending on the quality ya want with yer lodging, it will cost.
Option 2- The cheaper, yet not that cheerful:
We group up where i live, travel to the event by either a car or other means of transport.
Yer free to stick around at my place as it's huge enough, but we need a hotel for a few days nevertheless on around the event we go to.
Both plans have their ups and downs, but we still have time over to plan about it, as i haven't planned even the ammount of days either on how long we will tease eachother here, most likely max. ~a week.
I know we joked around with Cube that it should allways increase (~9 days of Horny Hungary, would be 18 days of Frosty Finland?) whenever we meet, but i'm pretty sure one week is enough for all we want to do.
And if people are not interested in a Fall meetup, the other options are as follows:
-Desucon (Around June, in Lahti, ~400km from me)
-Animecon (Around July, no idea as of where next year)
-Tracon (Around September, in Tampere, ~300km from me)
-Kokkocon (Usually around August, local small 'con, features and times may vary...as the cancelled one this year was for October, wtf? )
Now as far as english programs etc. go, it's Desucon, Animecon and Tracon. My local one is completely in Finnish so that's not really an option, unless we do a general relaxing meet and just hit the sales floor, allthough last time there wasn't more than one big seller there, nothing really expensive either that time, though online pre-orders for it can be arranged. Tracon and Animecon usually have more, and the Yaoi-guy should be there selling touhou music, lots of japanese porn, VNs, lewd dakimakuras etc...lewd figurines in Finland are abit of a rarity though so keep that in mind. Never been to Desucon myself so can't say much about it myself. Generally has the best 'con in Finland hype around itself, though i can't confirm it and it's allso AO-event (18 or above) doesn't mean lewds etc, but kids ain't around that's for sure. If we need more options on these, i can check the medium-sized cons as well, but i have no experience on them.
Allso if we stay on Option 2, if the weather is good enough, we could hit our summer cottage here (depending on the time of the year) as i'm pretty sure the annoying finno-swede relatives woudn't be there. While my town is a quiet place where nothing much happens, it's enough for some relaxed hanging around and if people want to, we can allso hit some casual nature hikes and mountains if yer up for scenic views of the town.
As of any ideas or suggestions about it, shoot away. Nothing is set in stone yet, and even these plans could change before i start planning on it fully if there is interest for it. I want to ask these things from those who are thinking about it or planning on joining as it will be expensive, and i want people to enjoy their trip and have bang for their buck at the same time as well. Allso as i'm curious, leave a post as well if you are planning on or thinking about joining the Finland meetup next year even if you woudn't have any ideas. The final plans will be posted in December depending on what we plan on.
