Yo,
How is everyone? Catchy title, don't ya think? But I only put it there to grab yer attention, as I talk about an Anime (that grown men cry to).
I will be talking about this anime:
Well, as ya can see (maybe), it's a drama anime, 11 Episodes long, and aired sometime in 2009, late at night for some weird reason, as it's rated 13. Maybe all them kids wouldn't be able to
handle to see their favorite capital destroyed by aliens....err....I meant, Earthquakes.
Have a trailer:
If ya watched the trailer, the basic premise is that the Japanese know that a big earthquake is due sooner or later (like within the next 30 years), and they decided to write a story about
what would happen if an 8.0 quake hits Tokyo. Of course, when this aired, no one expected to get hit by the Touhouku earthquake a few years later. Kinda ironic.
We start off with our main character, a 13 year old girl who is not happy at all with her life. But at least her little brother makes her happy, so it's not all that bad. Of course,
sometime during the first episode, she wishes that the world should just be destroyed, so now she probably feels bad that the earthquake happened. But it didn't just happen
straight away, it actually happens as she takes her little brother to a robot exhibition on Odaiba Island (or however it's spelled), an artificial island somewhere in Tokyo bay (I would assume).
While taking a break outside for some air, the earthquake hits, and the building partially collapses, with her brother still inside. She sets off to find him, and gets saved from disaster by a woman
whose name I forgot already, I think it was Mari. After finding her brother, the three of them set out to make it back to their homes, with Mari taking on the responsibility of getting them there.
And so, they make their way across Tokyo, trying to get home.
It's a story full of drama, feelings, and disaster. It does give some insights as to how the Japanese would deal with such a disaster, and how people would react to it.
It is animated quite nicely, and not short on action either, well, depending what ya consider action. If falling buildings, panic, and all that is action for ya, ya in luck.
From reading some comments before I downloaded it, it seems a lot of people did not like the main character at all. She comes of as uncaring, selfish, and entitled, though after watching it,
I must say, yea, she does seem to have some problems, but it also highlights why she is the way she is, so I didn't dislike her at all. She does care for some things, but does not display it well, I'd say.
And now a warning: If ya cry easily, don't watch this. Like really. The last two episodes are full of tear producing material for reasons I will not explain here, as it would spoil stuff.
But if ya don't mind crying (alone or with others), definitely give it a go, it will be worth yer time, I'd say, unless ya are a coldhearted bastard.
And yes, that grown man was I. Even watching the trailer made me sad again as I suffered PTSD or something...
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the show.
