Hey guys,
How ya all doing?
Today, I will talk about this Remixed Soundtrack.
Please bear in mind that I know nothing (of anything), so I might describe things and terms wrong,
but I'm sure that ya can deal with that....maybe. If not, then tell me, and I will not fix it, because I'm lazy.
But I will certainly remember it for next time, if I should ever feel like doing more than just this.
The first Album to be released on OverClocked Remix, it is a Remix of the Super Metroid Soundtrack.
Published on 12th of September, 2003, it contains 19 tracks of audio goodness, in varying styles.
It also deals with one of my favorite all-time Soundtracks, so that's a bonus.
Of course, if ya never played this game, this album might not do it for ya, but if ya did,
I'm sure ya will enjoy it.
It starts of quite slow and mellow, but soon dives into a more heavy atmosphere, before slowing down again,
and finally it will take ya into a sort of messy cacophony of sound. Or something like that anyway.
Besides, it's only messy, because the source was kinda weird. Though when I say messy, I don't mean bad.
Far from it.
1 and 2 will just chill ya like ya in the fridge, when 3 comes on, and ya think, "well, that's nice"
when all of a sudden halfway through the volume levels go up, and ya are assaulted by some glorious sounds the likes of which ya never heard before.....Hmm, maybe I paint it much better than it actually is, but 3 is by far my favorite track.
Like really, I would marry it if I could. It just encompasses the experience of the game at that point so well...it is just fabulous.
And so we move on to 4, when ya arrive at the main location of the game. Atmosphere and that feeling of premonition really does make it a very enjoyable track as well. It is really more of just some background pads, mixed with various noises, but it captures the essence well.
Track 5 is when ya start to explore the planet a bit more, and it's sentinels have finally awoken.
Exploration at this point is the focus, and the choir type of sound does lend itself quite good to it.
And it also gives that kind of anxiety (maybe) that ya feel while playing, of facing the unknown, and
the inherent danger of yer mission.
Onwards to 6, and unlike its original, this version is quite a bit slower, but that feeling of traversing through some
Jungle type environment comes across nicely, with the original catchy bass line kept in as the main driving force, I guess.
On 7, we have the Mini-boss theme remixed to something more urgent. If ya have ever heard the original, ya can hear
how different it is. It starts off very slowly, just like the original, but soon changes into some form of Drum'n'Bass.
(I could be wrong here, but I already told ya, I know nothing.)
For track 8, we will go back to the surface, on our way to replenish our supplies at our spaceship.
It does sound kinda cool, the imagery is one of success and heroics, and has sort of militaristic undertones.
If this was a movie, this is where everyone readies up to go out and kill whatever needs to be killed.
Exploring the deeper parts in 9, we can hear how a quiet minimalistic track has been improved to something more
adventurous. Flowing along with some sort of sound my feeble words cannot describe (some sort of flute or something like that), it retains much of the original feel. About halfway through, the focus shifts to some kind of bell/harp (?) mix,
before going back to its flutes or whatever it is. Towrds the end, it changes again to a feeling of revelation or so,
and from there, we will move on. Still one of my favorite tracks, both this version and the original.
Track 10 is rather short at 1:54, and deals with the Main boss music, version 1.
As this one is a rather easily defeated boss, the music is not as wild as maybe other ones, but still gives of a feeling of dread and hardship. Th eimages I see when I listen to this are nonetheless fabulous. True Cinematic style.
Track 11 is an interlude track of sorts, and try as I might, I cannot place this into the game anywhere.
Actually, I lied, it is a foreshadowing of the last area in the game.
But it does flow along nicely, and hints at the more sinister stuff waiting for ya.
For 12, the sound changes again to something of a more quiet and calm atmosphere, as ya explore an old and abandoned
spaceship that has crashed many ages ago, and now is haunted by phantoms. So more soundbased and not very melodious,
it does paint the picture of abandonment and fear very well. Horror at its finest.
I also really like the artist for this one, he does very nice music that gels nicely with me.
Behind the spaceship lies the underground lake area. In 13 we will face the loneliness that comes from such a place.
This track, though minimalistic in it's basic form does capture the essence so well,
it can make me feel shivers down my spine. It gives such a feeling of loss and being alone with is pads and the piano.
Truly a great song.
And it brings us to 14, when we will explore the underwater ruins of whatever it is that was once here.
Quite possibly some sort of factory or laboratory, we can explore and see some of the results of research
that went on here.
It does sound more light and airy than this place feels, but still fits together quite good.
15 will prepare ya for the belly of the planet, with its many dangers, such as superheated caverns, lava pools,
and other such hot dangers.
At 16, we will actually drop into it, and deal with it head on.
A mix of choir, bells, and drums, and some other stuff I cannot place in the middle, it will bring nightmare to anyone who ever had to traverse here....well, not really, but this place is dangerous, and some parts of this
area have quite an urgency to them, and the track deals with it well.
17 is where the big boss finally makes its appearance.
This track is split into two distinctive parts, with the first part being more on the slow side, as ya fight yer way
towards the boss past security systems and some other nasty stuff.
Sometime in the middle part it uses actual sounds from fighting the boss in a crucial part of the battle, after which it shifts into a solo type of song.
This track is all guitars and drums, and the second part is just awesomeness. (Plus, I enjoy the dude on the guitar,
he does a fabulous job of extracting sounds from it. Not just on this track, but in general.)
Track 18 starts with an alarm siren going off, which can only mean one thing....
Ya gotta run for yer life. The boss is dead, and a timebomb has been set. Everything is falling apart and
dangerous liquids are rising. The urgency can be heard quite well in here, with its screeching guitars and frantic beats.
Plus, ya can still hear the alarm in the back, which does absolutely nothing to slow this track down. Or something like that. Finally it ends in an explosion.....
All that's left is to read the credits and listen to some music while we watch them. Track 19 does just that,
and has just the right musical imagery that we need after such an exciting journey.
So now I will link two bits of stuff for ya.

As with all music, good speakers are recommended, just so ya can enjoy it in all its musical glory.
Thanks for reading, and I don't mind at all if ya wanna let me know what ya think of it.
P.S. Just because I can, let me link ya to the review or whatever I did of the actual game: Lots of text
(Shameless, I know...)
